Avatars is William Sheller's 12th album as a singer (not counting the lives). After 2004's Epures, an album on which he only used his piano and voice, one could wonder where he would go from here. Released a few weeks ago, Avatars is a subtle return to his 80s style with a modern production and arrangements. But, please, don't run! This is very nice French chanson/pop as William has been able to deliver in the pas thirty years. There are still his trademark arrangements (classical oriented string sections and piano) together with a classic pop/rock band that fits the bill perfectly. I'm not sure if this one's going to be a classic, only time will tell that, but it sure is a pleasant and entertaining listen, one that French chanson and pop lovers shouldn't miss.
