EZ3KIEL

EZ3KIEL
BATTLEFIELD (2008)
320 KBPS

After 2007's Naphtaline, one could wonder where the French four piece would be heading to. Would the dreamy state they took us in continue or would the formation surpise us again? With a somber, more furious mood, it's the latter that happened. Battlefield, while stile possessing the unique textures the band developped over the years, is, in a way, a return to their roots and pretty close to their debut album, Versus, while benefiting of all the improvments the band has been able to master over the years. The dreamy atmospheres EZ3KIEL displayed in his previous offering are still pretty much alive with more "dubby/trip hoppy" aspects that draws them as close as Massive Attack's Mezzanine as ever band has ever been. Not that Battlefield is a clone of the legends of Bristol's absolute masterpiece, but the structures and sounds here displayed remind me of the magic tour de force that album was. EZ3KIEL keeps on evolving and giving us music with a substance that no other band is capable of mastering nowadays which is a pretty good news and makes me eagerly expect their future releases. Do try Battlefield, if not, you'd miss something really special.
