ARNO

ARNO
CHARLATAN (1988)
320 KBPS

Throughout his 30 years of career, Arno has often borrowed French standards and made 'em his own; "Ils ont changé ma chanson”, “Comme à Ostende”, “Élisa”, “Les Filles du bord de mer” and “Le Bon Dieu” (available on the soundtrack of Bernard Blier's Merci la Vie and on this very album). For the former leader of Belgian rock legends TC Matic, of whom many people will recall the famous “Putain putain” (c'est vachement bien nous sommes quand même tous des Européens), “Charlatan” is the first landmark album of a productive and high quality solo adventure which he had begun two years prior on the trail of Tom Waits' cabaret rock. Mainly sung in english, this album, at the time of its release, showed how much promises the artist was offering as on the other notable "frenched" song here: “Tango de la peau”. If you don't yet know Arno, this might be a good place to start, if you do, I'm sure you've already started to feel your mouth watering...
