ARNO

ARNO
IDIOTS SAVANTS (1993)
320 KBPS

4th album from Belgian singer/songwriter Arno, "Idiots Savants" came just after he first gained success in his homeland posing as something of a mix of Jacques Brel and Serge Gainsbourg. Success even began for him in France which is not that common for a Belgian artist.
In dire need to pay his taxes and having a harsh time finding inspiration, Arno releases Idiots Savants, an album mostly sung in English which is worth the effort and has its share of what was to become classics of his solo repertoire such as "Vive ma liberté", "I Sold My Soul on TV" or his renditon of another belgian icon's "Les Filles du Bord de Mer" (Salvatore Adamo). He also pays tribute to Vaya Con Dios bass player, who died the year previous the recording of this album, on "Funky You're Not" and to his young-time idol Don Van Viet on "Hoy Hoy I'm Your Boy", both terrific songs by the way.
All in all, if this one cannot consider "Idiots Savants" as Arno's finest album, it still has its moments and is an enjoyable enough experience which rock and chanson's lovers will enjoy.

"Les Filles du Bord de Mer" is from Salvatore Adamo rather than Jacques Brel, I think.

You're right... Dunno why I wrote that when I knew it was from Salvatore... I'll correct it right away. ;)
