Often said to be the French Shellac, but, trust me, they're much more than than, Sloy uses similar tools in their sound than their said model: a heavy melodic bass, hard pounding drums, angular guitar riffs, paranoid-like vocals. Whatsmore, Steve Albini produces the album giving it a menacing, dark sound which helped build the reputation of the band.
Groovy, surprising and quite radical in its own way, Plug has many highlights: "Pop" and its jumpy arrangements, "Many Things (to Wear)", "Devotion"... Track by track this album turns out to be one of France's most entertaining indie releases. The few samples enhancing its sound add just the right amount of overworldly allures to spice it up a bit.
Just as Shellac, Sloy gives us something quite minimalistic, raw and brutal like a heavy weight punch on the jaw. This album, just like anything else released by the band, is deranged, quirky and entertaining at the same time so, if you're looking for something crazy, powerful and unique look no further, Sloy's for you.
