DE CHASSY & YVINEC

GUILLAUME DE CHASSY
DANIEL YVINEC

SONGS FROM THE LAST CENTURY (2009)
320 KBPS

Teaming with legends Paul Motian & Mark Murphy, French jazzmen Guillaume de Chassy & Daniel Yvinec have crafted a subtle and reflective album. Consisting of covers rearranged in a jazz fashion, Songs from the Last Century offers something you don't meet very often in today's jazz scene. Here the melodies come first and, while the musicianship is top notch, it never comes out as showing off.
Among the songs covered here, the most notable are 'Something So Right’ (Paul Simon), ‘Junk’ (Paul Mc Cartney) ou ‘Condition Of The Heart’ (Prince) or, maybe the Cd's highlight, Neil Young's Like a Hurrican but, really, there are no weak tunes to be found.
There's not much more I have to add except try it, you will not be disappointed.

1. Something so right (Paul Simon)
2. I’ll walk alone (Sammy Cahn & Jule Styne) - Vocal Version
3. I’ll walk alone (Sammy Cahn & Jule Styne) - Instrumental Version
4. Then I’ll be tired of you (Arthur Schwartz & Yip Harburg)
5. Like a hurricane (Neil Young)
6. Alone together (Howard Dietz & Arthur Schwartz)
7. Junk (Paul Mc Cartney)
8. You fascinate me so (Cy Coleman & Carolyn Leigh)
9. I loves you Porgy (Georges & Ira Gershwin)
10. Taking a chance on love (Vernon Duke)
11. Answer me my love (Gerhard Winkler, Fred Rauch & Carl Sigman)
12. L’étang (Paul Misraki)
13. I wish you love (Léo Chauliac & Albert A.Beach)
14. Condition of the heart (Prince)
