BRIGITTE BARDOT

BRIGITTE BARDOT

B.B. (1964)
192 KBPS

B.B., originally released in 1964 and reissued in 1999. This album has one of the all-time great come-hither album covers, a photo that manages to be absolutely pornographic while showing nothing but the blonde bombshell's hair, part of her face, and one naked shoulder. The two highlights here are Bardot's slinky rendering of the early bossa nova standard "Maria Ninguem" (Maria Nobody), also recorded by the likes of João Gilberto, Herbie Mann, and, incongruously, Cliff Richard, and the bouncy single "Moi Je Joue". The rest is hardly on par and Bardot will cease recording music before she met Serge Gainsbourg around 1967.

BEST OF B.B. (1996)
192 KBPS

Brigitte Bardot, the blonde-haired international Sex symbol of the 1960's and beyond, orginated from France where it is possible to have a hugely successful recording career without being able to sing. And god bless the French for it, I reckon. But Brigitte, as was her style, pouts, purrs and moans her way through this collection of songs which spannes her recording career from the early 60's to the early 70's. And everything is done so seductively. Some of the songs on this album will be nothing more than background music, but when Serge Gainsbourg starts to get involved in this album, things really spice up. Songs like "Bonnie and Clyde" "Contact" "Je t'aime...moi non plus" and of course the absolute classic "Harley Davidson" are truly amazing. Other standout numbers include "Le soleil de ma vie" (done with that irresistable Sacha Distel) "Tu veux ou tu veux pas" and "Je danse donc je suis". If you need a huge fix of 1960's French music, then come to the Queen of French entertainment at the time, Brigitte, and her incorrigable lover, Serge.
