STANDARD VISIT

It all started with a very simple but brilliant idea from producer Philippe Ghielmetti of the jazz label Minium: using some of his favorite musicians (most of whom already recorded for his previous label Sketch) to record cover albums. This invitation took became a reality from May to October of 2006 with the release of five albums of terrific pianists (Bill Carrothers & Marc Copland, René Urtreger, Bruno Angelini, Giovanni Mirabassi, Stephan Oliva). The six and final opus being a bonus for those who bought the whole series. Its title "Huit femmes & l'échafaud" (the title deserves to be explained) includes 8 covers of Ornette Coleman's Lonely Woman and a Miles Davis cover from the Louis Malle movie, Ascenceur pour l'échafaud by René Urteger. While those albums are by different artists the series has to be considered as a whole as each album adds another golden brick to this wall of fantastic music. Last thing I must say is that, wether you know the originals or not, it will not spoil the pleasure of listening to these cover versions! A must try!
