VILAIN PINGOUIN
ROCHE ET ROULE (1992)
320 KBPS
Heading from Montreal, Quebec, Vilain Pingouin are a fun rock act. One that probably influenced Quebec's most famous band now, Les Cowboys Fringants. When this album was released, back in 1992, Vilain Pingouin were huge in their homeland. It's when they tried winning over France too but, hélàs, failed as French audiences were not that rock'n'roll back then... This album, their second, shows the band broadening its rock music towards Cajun influences ('P'tite Vie, P'tite Misère'), Celtic roots (the opening instrumental "Passe-Moi Le Celt'), Jazz ("Festin De Pingouins) or Blues ("Le Pleu Du Papier Blanc). Songs are solid and though the band doesn't display any groundbreaking music, it remains an entertaining listen for whoever fancies good ole Rock'n'Roll.
Vilain Pingouin are still active and released 4 more albums after "Roche Et Roule", none of these have been released in France so I cannot comment on their quality but I'd be curious to hear how they sound like. If you got any of them, drop me a link!
