Two years after Welcome to the Modern Dance Hall, singer/guitarist Mark Huygens and his band of adventurer musicians have suceeded to transform their hybrid of rock, pop, jazz and funk. Willing to stay away from the musical territories covered by their nation-mates (dEUS, Zita Swoon, Soulwax) the band dares throwing itself in the arms of l'Ensemble Musiques Nouvelles, an orchestra directed by Jean-Claude Dessy. On September 26 of 2000 at the Cirque Royal de Bruxelles, the band and the orchestra transcend 8 of Venus' compositions in what may be described as a theatrical meeting of Purcell and the Belgian formation's music. Daring, beautiful and certainly essential for anybody looking for the hard to achieve mix of modern rock and classical music, Venus and l'Ensemble Musiques Nouvelles succeed where so many, and more famous, names have failes. A must hear.
