WILLIAM SHELLER

WILLIAM SHELLER
OSTINATO (2006)
320 KBPS

Released in 2006, Ostinato is not Sheller's first incursion in the classic music domain. Actually, he was originally trained to achieve such thing and, if it took him some time to return to it, it's only because he's always been some kind of a maverick (son of a jazz bassist, he never ever approached his father's universe). On Obstinato he only is the composer played by the Ostinato Ochestra under the direction of Jean-Luc Tingaud. While quite varied, his style could be labelled as post-romantism with influences from Dvořák, Smetana or Ravel. The overall tone is never quite as boombastic as his influences might show but the emotional depths in which it brings you certainly reflects from XXth century composers. Anyway, you don't like to be well versed into classical music to appreciate the simple and soulful melodies here displayed so, don't wait, get it and make sure to post your thoughts.

rmotcThis share is a perfect example of what makes your blog so good. I have never heard of William Sheller previously, but your description was so appealing and listening to this right now, I had to say again how much I appreciate the effort and care in your selections. I can't say where William Sheller fits in the overall scale of symphonic music, my ears have the disadvantage of a couple of hundred years of competing sounds, but I can say that this is excellent. Thanks again and hope to be able to sample your fine taste for a long time to come.
