GLENN HUGHES

GLENN HUGHES

Glenn Hughes is always going to be remembered as the bass player in the Coverdale era Deep Purple which isnt a bad thing on its own. However if you listen to the live recordings from that era you are left with the impression that a soul singer had been put into a hard rock band!He spent most of his time performing embarassing vocal gymnastics that almost drowned out Coverdales lower bluesy vocals. The strange thing is that on this album more than any of his later works, his vocals cover tha whole range of his register from top to bottom and he sounds comfortable with any style from rock to soul. This album tends to be overlooked as it is less aggressive than some of his more recent work. The reason for this is simple it is Glenn Hughes making music for himself and not trying to live up to his "voice of rock" moniker. He has a remarkeable voice whatever he chooses to sing.
