Hello People!
For this one I expect many comments as I'm asking for your opinion. I have a 37 cds boxset displaying the entire works of English XXth Century composer Benjamin Britten.
As you might imagine, that's quite a lot of work to upload so, I thought I could span it in a Moodswings Special week. I don't want to put it on line if too few people are interrested.
Tell me what you think and, if you want it, I'll post it sometimes in August.
Stay tuned.
Here's two videos so that you can make up your mind:

Great idea, Stefan!
I'm interested in this box-collection. I also appreciate your effort to post some new and exciting music every day!
greetings,
Ilove to hear more BB, I'm slso interested in Ralph Vaughan Williams to.
nice of you to put this up as and when you can.
Not sure how much of this I'll download, but I love the wide range of stuff you post and may grab one or two to find out what the fuss is.
And please keep up the good work!
I do like Britten: something I own, most of his work I don't. I might take a look and listen to something. Britten is a major composer and a valuable challenge for all listeners. It would also be interesting to see how many readers of your so diverse blog are also into contemporary classical.
I think that's a great idea. I like what I've heard by Britten but have only heard a limited amount & would be interested to hear more.
Is this the 4 CD boxes Britten conducts Britten??? Because 3 of them are already avilable at the net, if is this you can post number 4. Thanks
Did I say 4 cds? O_O
I said 37!
peu friand de classique, je tire malgre tout mon chapeau à la varieté et le travail necessaire pour ce blog genialissime
altos (j' avais oublié de signer)
;-)
J'ai quelques gros projets en tête et qui ne seront pas du classique... ;)
Je ne t'en dis pas plus, tu verras ça en temps et en heure... ^^
Upload it and they will come!
how do we know the two pieces you put are representative of his work?
Did I say they were?
Do you seriously think one can sum up a 40 years long career in just two samples? I dare not even dream about achieving such a task.
Britten has composed a handful of operas, orchestral works and chamber music. That's all I can say as of now.
The question you shoulk ask yourself, dear Anonymous, is either you are curious to hear more or not?
I don't think many will be downloading 37 cds - I think only the most dedicated will do so and so far there aren't many asking for it. If I was you I'd upload a couple CDs and see how many thanks you get. If you get more than 10 then hell yea go for it otherwise I wouldn't bother.
Étant un mordu de musique classique, cette série m'intéresse au plus haut point! merci
Great site, great music and BB boxed set would only add to the musical variety you offer. Keep up the good work!
the issue is not *summarizing* but being *representative*. these are totally different concepts (ever took statistics?). take mozart. nobody can summarize his work in two files. or of any composer for that matter. but the jupiter symphony and rondo alla turca are pretty representative of his work.
Actually, these are quite representative of his instrumental work. Not so much of the operas.
You can always get on Youtube to have a better idea of the man's work but, once again, all you have to answer is are you interested or not. ;)
I vote for choral works and compositions based on popular music/folk tunes!
Thans a lot!

It'll either be the whole works or nothing at all... ;)
hi! i appreciate your willingness to share your eclectic & admirably wide musical preferences with us. one of the things i like best about your blog is that one never knows what comes up next. personally i have no interest in britten & but i fear that it will prevent you for quite some time from posting more diverse & (for me) interesting stuff. understand, please, that whatever you post is appreciated, though. best wishes & thanx for some really good stuff so far, ubique
You musn't worry. It'll only take a week and, then, thing will get back to normal.
One thing though, I'm seriously thinking about slowing my posting pace starting in september. A "one-post-a-day" blog will be more than enough I think...
Very interested to hear some of this, many thanks
Dubley
Stefan,
Great idea!
Very interesting!
Sounds like a great idea. I'd especially like to here his operas "Turn of the Screw" and "Peter Grimes."
I'm game. Particularly glad not so much his Opera. Love orchestral work and your choices have been great. So let her rip, thanks thanks, thanks.
glad you wont only oncentrate on britten for the next months ;-) if you want to slow down, go ahead, your pace is amazing. my suggestion: 2 posts a day, wildly different! ;-) best, ubique
Yes, yes, yes! The BOX SET! I would have brought it, but I live in a place where such thing is impossible. So, I would be very greatful to see that here.
Great blog, btw. I visit it almost every day to see what you got to say about interesting music.
It does sound like a lot of work to upload these but if you're willing, I'm eager to hear these.
I love the diversity of the music you post. Much appreciated!
So, that's settled.
I'll post the 37 cds boxset in August over a special Britten week at New Moodswings.
Thanks for the comments.
I know I'm late with this comment but it's very nice to see a blog that can vary from Britten to Max Roach to Bowie. Great stuff and thanks.
