QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE

QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE
HAPPY TRAILS (1969 - 1992 REMASTER)
256KBPS

After their debut album which just hinted at their power, QMS recorded one of their Fillmore shows in 1968, mixed it with some studio recordings and released it as Happy trails in 1969, and it has since become one of the most beloved albums of the acid-rock era. The live part, and most of the studio parts consists of long free-form improvisations, which extremely sucsessfully combines blues-rock soloing with eastern flavoured raga-rock. Unlike many live albums, the improvisations never get boring, instead they get more and more tension-filled and mesmerising until they finally explode into realms you didn't know exsist in rock music. Gary Duncan's bluesy rythm guitar makes the perfect platform for John Cippolina's quivering leads and together with bassist David Freiberg and drummer Greg Elmore they created one of the most truly magical albums of all time. Special attention should be given to the 13 minutes instrumental Calvary (inspired by the Calvary of Christ obviously) one the most breathtaking, intense and beautiful thing that came out of the psychedelic rock scene. A classic !

In the past 40 years I've gone through 2 copies of 'Happy Trails' on vinyl. I can't wait for this to download so I can hear it all the way through without having to get up to turn it over! Thanks for the posting.
