LOS CARAYOS

Los Carayos was an all-star band including musicians from some of the biggest bands of the late 80's French alternative rock scene. François Hadji-Lazaro (from Les Garçons Bouchers, Pigalle) Manu Chao (and his brother Tonio, from La Mano Negra), Schultz (from Parabellum) and Alain Wampas (from Les Wampas & Happy Drivers) were the musicians in the band. The music is a mix of rockabilly, folk, punk & chanson. The live performances of the band were know to be spectacular and wild as this kind of music can be... Los Carayos ceased activity due to the success of each of the members's other projects but remain a legend among those who took interest in the alternative scene. Here's a live album from 1986 and their last album from 1990 for your listening pleasure.

ILS ONT OSE (LIVE) (1986)
320 KBPS

First ever recording of this all-star alternative project. It displays mostly covers and has a very raw sound. Released in 1986 on the All Or Nothing independant label it didn't sell much but established the band as a great live act. The tonality here is centered around the north american covers and has strong rockabilly influences mixed with a ounk/folkish energy. A fine record.

1. I Don't Mind
2. Grüssen von Deutschland
3. Muleskinner Blues
4. Big Balls In Nashville
5. Knocking
6. Madeleine
7. Just Over That Girl
8. Les Carayos

AU PRIX OU SONT LES COURGES... (1990)
320 KBPS

Much more varied than their live debut, "Au prix où sont les courges" has not a bad song. Many genres are covered here such as folk, chanson, jazzy chanson, etc... It's a feast for the ears and a beautiful goodbye from the band. I particulary enjoy Schultz's songs (Drowsie Maggie, Sit Alone, Mama, Drunken Down & Walking Alone) which display a very fine mix of blues, rockabilly, jazz and folk. A great album, really!

1. Drowsie Maggie
2. L'escalier
3. Sit Alone
4. Al vai
5. Chicoutimi
6. Mama
7. Mustapha
8. Drunken Down
9. Carburador
10. Walking Alone
11. Emmylou
12. Juanita y Paquita
