VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR
WORLD RECORD (1976)
320 KBPS
Last album of the final trilogy of this essential English progressive rock band (before the recent reformation that is), World Record is also my favorite and my very first experience with Van Der Graaf Generator's universe. I still remember the shock this music caused me when I first listened to it. I was in Spain for the holidays with my parents (I was a teenager then) and I bought a tape of this album at a very cheap price in a supermarket. I had never heard of the band before and, god!, did their jazzified free art rock had an impact on me! In fact, I think it was the very first time music with a saxophone ever moved me. Knowing a little more about music and I, now, fully understand why Van Der Graaf Generator has always been a much respected band unlike the other prog dinosaurs... To this day, I have yet to hear music that can be that gracious and melodic while being extreme and totally uncompromising. A GREAT ALBUM!
