GENESIS

GENESIS
A TRICK OF THE TAIL (1976)
WIND AND WUTHERING (1977)

320 KBPS

There had to be a Genesis album in that selection... But, since I've already posted my two favorite albums by the band (the obvious Selling England by the Pound & Lamb Lies Down on Broadway) the choice was quite hard to make. It could have been one of the earlier albums (either Foxtrot or Nursey Cryme would have done the trick), I finally went with the first two post-Gabriel albums for several reasons: 1- Replacing their singer by their, then, shy drummer was a daring decision; 2- Reinventing themselves without betraying their original formula was not a won bet; 3- These albums are, in my humble opinion, almost as good as the two ultimate classics I've already mentioned.
What A Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering proved (now that we know what the band later aimed for) is how essential to Genesis' sound Steve Hackett was and what a big creative loss for the band it had been when he finally decided to leave them. To the younger and inexperienced ones, those who think of Genesis as the band that had huge hits in the 80's and early 90's and recently reform to cash on its past fame, I can only suggest to listen to their 70's stuff and why not start with the last two great albums they've recorded, A Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering!

A Trick Of The Tail
1. Dance on a Volcano
2. Entangled
3. Squonk
4. Mad Man Moon
5. Robbery, Assault and Battery
6. Ripples...
7. Trick of the Tail
8. Los Endos

Wind and Wuthering
1. Eleventh Earl of Mar
2. One for the Vine
3. Your Own Special Way
4. Wot Gorilla?
5. All in a Mouse's Night
6. Blood on the Rooftops
7. Unquiet Slumbers for the Sleepers...
8. ...In That Quiet Earth
9. Afterglow
