La Soupe A La Grimace is a must hear, with other artist's albums on the Lithium label, for those who love the so-called new chanson that appeared in the last 3/4 years...
A delicate voice, a tad hesitating sometimes, inhabits a kind of pop (rather indie) in which lyrics have an essential part. Rather dark lyrics that is (Passer sous le métro = Jumping under the subway train, Un mauvais vivant = A bad living people, etc....) in which Betsch's voice sometimes seems to be expressing very personal confessions.
Betch can be compared to his then label-mate Dominique A with a darker feel and and "indie-er" musical approach. With an accomplice like Christian Quermalet (The Married Monk, the two of them plays almost everything on the album) Betsch proposes us a terrific debut charged with melancholy and beauty.
