A friend of mine once told me this was Fish's "Rolling Stones" opus and, indeed, there's a classic rock feel throughout the album. To be perfectly honest, I cannot say this is my favorite of the Big Man, I like him swimming in more progressive waters but, it's still a good album and it will certainly appeal to those who like his voice and his more rocking material. Like all Fish albums, this includes groovy tunes, tear-in-the-eye ballads and classy rockers. The Highlights for me are the two rockers Rookie and Zoo Class but the whole thingy is pretty consistent which wasn't the case with both his previous albums (1999's Raingods With Zippos and 2001's Fellini Days... both great album but both missing Field of Crows' consistency). As usually, the lyrics are good and well served by Fish charismatic voice. I think what disappointed me at first was the relative lack of "theatrality" in the music, may it not spoil your pleasure of listening to a nice album that will allow you to bang your head and cry your eyes while thinking of the state of the world we live in.
