GIL SCOTT-HERON

GIL SCOTT-HERON
A NEW BLACK POET
SMALL TALK AT 125TH AND LENOX(1970)

320 KBPS

A New Black Poet Small Talk At 125th And Lenox was Gil Scott-Heron’s first album, recorded live when he was only 21. The record was based upon his first book of published poetry of the same name. At this early point in his career, Scott-Heron was making fiery political statements about America accompanied only by congas, (although there are three songs with piano and Gil singing) linking him in style, delivery and sound to the Last Poets. Probably the most famous piece is the first, The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. If you want some insight into the feelings of many African Americans and the Black Power movement of the 1970s this would be a good starting point.

1. Introduction, The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
2. Omen
3. Brother
4. Comment #1
5. Small Talk At 125th & Lenox
6. The Subject Was Faggots
7. Evolution (and Flashback)
8. Plastic Pattern People
9. Whitey On The Moon
10. The Vulture
11. Enough
12. Paint It Black
13. Who'll Pay Reparation On My Soul?
14. Everyday
