First release of the high quality label No Format, Le Dogme Des VI Jours sure is not the easiest music around, it's an album that pushes music border through unknown territories, an unidentified musical object made of surreal collages and poetic performance. The label Free Jazz might pop into your head while listening to it, it's relevant. Composed of John Greaves (of Henry Cow, Slap Happy's fame), Marcel Kanche, Mino Malan & Nicolas Pabian (with appearances from the sampler master/free jazz saxophonist Akosh S.) these guys have let their imagination free to wander. The 'musical director' of the project, Kanche, had a simple credo : "aucune rehearsals, no limits, musical aesthetics first, don't talk but play, record everything, let everyone express his natural skills and creativity". They thus explore many musical soundscapes, many possiblities, melting their individual personalities in a quite astonishing and very unusual mix. It Art (with a capital A) with its uncertainties and failures but isn't risk the very beauty of Art? A recommended trip!
