WILDMIMI ANTIGROOVE SYNDICATE
GROOVE-JE ? (2006)
320 KBPS
Here's a record full of ideas, one that's hardly categorisable...
It seems that Rémi Sciuto (aka Wildmimi, saxophone) has assembled all the musics he likes and that have influences him, would it be conscious or not.
The album kicks off as some kind of imaginary car chase soundtrack (« À pas de poneys » ou « Surf It ») full of strength and allure with all kinds of percussion (the unusual type, frying pans etc...) mastered by Antonin Leymarie. Then, with « Never Talk To This Chicken », we aim towards a early Genesis , or Peter Hammill, sound. An impression certainly influenced by the very 70's organ sound of Boris Boublil. An impression later found on « PJ : Poney Judiciaire », with quite similar influences.
It seems that Groove-je 'statement' is to keep surprising the listener, changing pace and mood with every new theme developed. There's even some kind of mutant waltz with « Valse des poneys absents » or Zappa influenced improvisations ( « Chippendaïl », and more...) in this quite festive album with very noticeable jazz and blues influences and even some moments recalling Morphine's ghost (thanks to Remi Sciuto's bass saxophone, but he also plays the alto and the soprano)...
A rollercoaster kind of album that will let you with a dizzy mind and a short breath. A very entertaining experience from this promising french combo.
