After the tour that followed the release of the Mustango album, the romantic Jean-Louis Murat went to the castle of Mazeron to record his hommage to Madame Deshoulières, a french litterary adventurer of the XVIIth century. To personify the poetess, adulated by Voltaire and Sainte-Beuve, he chose the actress Isabelle Huppert who already played Madame de Maintenon, a close friend of Madame Deshoulières, in the motion picture Saint-Cyr. Enhanced by baroque arrangements, courtesy of Daniel Meier, the words of she who had acquaintances with the greatest minds of her time are perfectly served by luths, clavinets and violas. With no musical reference from this particular era Jean-Louis Murat cleverly guides the voice of Isabelle Huppert through the oeuvre of Deshoulières. The libertine writings of Antoinette Deshoulières are thus magnified in a very peculiar way mixing baroque aspects, rock and pop tempi and modern romanticism where both the voices of Jean-Louis and Isabelle fit just fine. A nice catch!
