JONAS HELLBORG
THE WORD (1991)
320 KBPS
Jonas Hellborg plays acoustic bass, Tony Williams (Miles Davis etc..) is on the drumkit, the Soldier String Quartet provides the strings (as you could have guessed!). The music is a mix of indian-american & eastern harmonies, it's smooth and a little harsh sometimes, it's played with great skills and it includes a cover of Hendrix's obscure's Cherokee Mist... I know this album is no longer available but it's worth the catch so start looking for it straight after you got a taste of it here and keep me posted on this heavily under-estimated piece of ART!

Wow, thanks for this. Ten years ago a friend loaned me his warped cassette of The Word and I was blown away. Being familiar with Tony Williams but not Jonas Hellborg, my first reaction was to wonder who gave Tony a demo tape to drum to as he pleased? My second thought was, who's this Jonas Hellborg guy? Eventually I made a tape-to-tape copy, and it became a mini disc then finally a sorely lacking mp3. Excellent music in every way, and now I can enjoy it even more. Thanks again.
You're welcome!
Make sure to try the other Hellborg release availablee here... It's even more reflective and way less "boombastic" as it's a duet with percussionist/vocalist Glen Velez but it sure deserve your attention.
It's here btw:
