Another band that never got the success it deserved. Karate was too calm and technical for the emo & hardcore kids, too indie and jazzy for the adult rock lovers, too pop for the jazz lovers... A really unique band that failed to gain an audience of its own but pleased open-minded listeners that had the chance to cross their path. Some Boots is their second to last album, their more "progressive" work too. Geoff Farina's guitar reminds me of Mark Knolpfer with a jazzier and more relaxed edge, the rhythm section is of the best quality possible. in a word, Karate was GREAT but too few people noticed it. As a bonus, I give you the Cancel/Sing EP consisting of two long intricate tracks: Cancel (11 minutes) and Sing (15 minutes), another must have!
