Soeza were a septet from Bristol, some of the musicians composing the band being issued from the John Parish Band (Aaron, the band's cornetist, also played on Dominique A's "Auguri"). Mixing and energy not unlike Fugazi's with a "James-Brownian" soul sound, Soeza was definitely a one of a kind band. The male and female vocals, the horn section, the sharp guitars and the two drummers (!) are certainly part of their refreshing originality. A band to register with The Ex, Nation of Ulysses, Stereolab & Fugazi! Released in 2001 on the french label Prohibited Records, this is, to my knowledge, their only album. If you've heard of another and do possess it, pass it on! Meanwhile, this is music people ought to try.

Great band. They have just released a new album, "7 Obstacles" on Gringo Records. They released another album after this one, "Why Do You Do?", also on Gringo.
