Ex-Roadrunners singer/guitarist, Frandol, after the split of his historical band, went for a solo career in 1999. He has yet released one EP ("Démo", 2000) and two albums ("Oulipop", 2002 & "Double Fond", 2005). Quite commercialy obsucre, he has a great talent which I'm allowing you to dicover today.
Pushing forward the sonic "parti-pris" of his previous EP ("Démo"), Frandol proposes us a great debut album. His voice, that might recall some of a rawer Bertrand Cantat (Noir Désir) or a more melodic Miossec, serves the songs perfectly. As Frandol is also quite a good guitarist, his use of distorted six strings gives the music a rockier edge than most of the other "new-chanson" representatives can. There's no weak song on this album and those who speak french will see that, adding it to his natural sense of melody and his terrific songwriting, Frandol is also quite an author! I do consider this album as one of the best things coming from France these last years so you won't be surprised if I solemnly ask you to give it a try!

Bonus Tracks (Demo 2000)
The title of this debut EP might make you think the sound is raw and the production approximative. It is not! 3 of the 5 songs displayed here will later be re-recorded for his debut album "Oulipop". The other two are a sweet Gainsbourg cover ("Les papillons noirs") and "Rose" with lyrics written by Miossec. The tone here is "rock meets chanson" with a little pop thrown in the mix. Clever arrangements and very nice songwriting makes it worth a listen.
