Last album from French number one rock act, due to the imprisonment of singer Bertrand Cantat after he accidentally killed his then girlfriend, the actress Marie Trintignant, Des visages des figures displays a more relaxed/adult band than their previous albums. The rage is still there but melodies and arrangements have a quieter/more refined thing to them. The band even used a text by Léo Ferré (des armes) and made a long duet with French underground singer Brigitte Fontaine (L'Europe which is almost 24 minutes long). In my humble opinion, it's their finest album, one where the band finally manages to have a more mainstream sound while not compromising to the mainstream. Note that, Bertrand Cantat has got out of jail, there might be a new album someday, that would be good news for the French scene that failed to find a new leader since the band ceased its activity. Fingers crossed!
