SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE
THE RISING TIDE (2000)
320 KBPS
Here's the final album from Jeremy Enigk's influential formation. The Rising Tide can be both perceived as a great accomplishment and an untypical album for the band. I really like their earlier, indie rock with a slight emo feel, sound but with their fourth album, the band reinvent itself. It could easily be defined as a progressive indie pop opus as the influences that come to mind range from Yes to Radiohead or Steve Hogarth-era-Marillion. Enigk's high pitch vocals particularly fit on this very much aerial music and with a hi-fi production and precious arrangements it's a winning package! I realize, though, that this could put off the indie rock lovers that enjoyed the band so much with their earlier, "lo-fi"er and more raucous sound. For me, it's the best Sunny Day Real Estate has ever been!
