Second album from this precursor of the new chanson scene, Les Ronds de Carotte, is a great album. First, because Thomas writes funny and clever lyrics that might recall of Charles Trenet and Jacques Higelin's style; second, because it's beautifully composed and arranged. On this album, you'll find everything a chanson-lover could expect from an album: a little blues influenced songs (both "Hugo" 'songs), the piano and strings laden songs (Louise, Ne pleure plus, Pont Mirabeau), etc... It goes from upbeat to ballad, it's never cliché though it could easily be defined as classic chanson, it even has a cover of the classic Italian revolutionary song "Bella Ciao". In a word, it's GREAT!
