With two "Victoires de la Musique" (the French equivalent to the Grammy Awards), a sold out tour and album sales that never went that high before, "Osez Joséphine" is the album that helped establish Alain Bashung as one of the leading figures of quality French rock/chanson. Of course, you have the three winning hits ("Osez Joséphine", "Volutes" and "Madame Rêve") but all the songs on this 1991 release are good. Arrangements and compositions are delicate yet sober and serve perfectly Bashung's unique vocal qualities. It goes without saying that Alain made no compromission whatsoever to achieve such mainstream success which makes him an even bigger man. A must try.
