After his stunningly beautiful self-titled debut album, Artaud returns with a second opus which takes thing where he left it. La Tour Invisible displays more of the same cinematic mix of jazz and classical music and, indeed, the same references to Stravinsky, Reich and Mingus can be called when trying to define how delicate and sensible Artaud's music manages to be.
Accompanied by some of the finest jazz musicians in France (Frédéric Couderc on saxophone, Julien Chirol on trombone, Stéphane Belmondo on flute and saxophone, etc.), Vincent Artaud offers us a brilliantly performed and composed opus. Playing himself the piano, the bass (his main instrument when playing with others), guitars and programmings, Artaud proves that he's an apt instrumentalist, a great composer and an impeccable arranger as the orchestral sections (provided by the Symphonic Orchestra of Liepaja, Latvia) shows.
La Tour Invisible is, in my humble opinion, one of the finest album released in 2007 and a promising work from an artist I hope will give us more wonderful musical moments in the years to come. A must hear!
