When their previous album My World (2003) could remind of Linkin Park this one see thai rockers Big Ass evolving in a whole new direction while still displaying a band with its true identity. The music here kind of reminds me of a thai version of Avenged Sevenfold. A thai version, really? Well, yes. While american emo-metallers Avenged Sevenfold have a little something punkish and "Guns'n'Rosian," Big Ass (what an awful band name by the way) replace it with a pop inclinaison that fits their origin which means you sure hear some Iron Maiden-like guitars, aggressive vocals on some songs but others are clearly radio-aimed ballad-like tunes and, trust me, they do that nicely enough so that's not a bad thing, quite the contrary actually.
Of course, being one of the leading bands of the new generation of rockers from Thailand (with Silly Fools and a few others), Big Ass' 2006 album is top notch performed and benefits from a world class production. The thai language is nicely fitting the music and will not disturb you past the surprise of not hearing english on the songs. Overall, this is a very pleasant album which proves there's not just us westerners whom can do nice modern rock music.
As a bonus, I've thrown in their previous album which contains more great songs that will alternatively make your head bang or your heart ache. Don't let the silly name on the cover fool you, Big Ass are great and deserve to be tried again and again.
