MEDERIC COLLIGNON

MEDERIC COLLIGNON
JUS DE BOCSE

PORGY AND BESS (2006)
320 KBPS

Who needs yet another jazz version of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess when Miles, Armstrong and Ella did such a terrific job? Was it really necessary? Hell yeah! Médéric Collignon and Jus de Bocse are not the kind of musicians that just play the stuff, they transform it! Based on Miles Davis' version, this hot new french jazzman's version goes where you didn't expected it to go. On top of classy, skillful musicianship, those lads add a sense of modernity in the arrangements and recording methods that will please the open-minded listener beyond expectations. The result is both crazy and delicate, respectuous and crazy. I tell you, you don't hear that kind of music everyday and it certainly is not for everyone but, those who will be lucky enough to get into this incandescent stuff will no doubt spin it regularily for years to come. A must hear.

1. My Man's Gone Now
2. The Buzzard Song
3. Bess, You Is My Woman
4. Gone
5. Gone, Gone, Gone
6. I Love You, Porgy
7. Bess, Oh Where's My Bess
8. Prayer (Oh Doctor Jesus)
9. Fisherman, Strawberry And Devil Crab
10. Here Come De Honey Man
11. My Ship
12. It Ain't Necessarily So
13. Mood
