Michaël Lévinas' fame as a concert pianist is enhanced by serious studies of Liszt and Scriabin's music and by the recording of all Beethoven sonatas. His capacities as a composer have been noticed by Olivier Messiaen, Boulez, Ligeti and Stockhausen. Being interested in timbre and space, his works have all been concerned with a concept which he names "the instrumental". Thus his definition of a "musical object" enlarges the concept of sound to include factors of time and space along with the theatrical dimensions.
He is president of the "Ensemble l'Itinéraire" and teaches analysis at the Paris Conservatoire.
"Voûtes" is a selection oh his major works and displays a panorama of over twenty years of creation. His early works sound like so mant bottled messages of hope while his recent production technically ratifies the visionary conception.
Get a taste of thsi still promising young contemporary composer, one of the finest and more daring to have come from France in the last 20 years.
