Baptiste Trotignon (piano) and David El-Malek (saxophone), two of the most promising talents of today's French jazz scene, recorded this album with the help of extraordinaire rythm section Daryl Hall (bass) and Dré Pallemaerts. The two leaders share the compositions of this 10 tracks opus which doesn't make it less cohesive.
From hard-bop to more mellow/tender or groovy realms, the four-piece gives us one of the best jazz albums released in 2005. Sure, they are talented instrumentalists but, whatsmore, they know how to craft a theme and make it evolve into something beautiful, daring but always melodic. El-Malek coltranian's saxophone shines throughout the whole album and Trotignon romanticism is the perfect counterpoint of the lava-like flow his companion and co-leader of the quartet creates.
If you like jazz, you'll like this album... for sure.
