CHARLELIE COUTURE

CHARLELIE COUTURE
POCHETTE SURPRISE (1981)
320 KBPS

First artist to ever sign to the legendary Island label, CharlElie Couture records his third album in France before flying to Nassau to mix it. That tell you how much the record company believed in his potential considering he was not yet the famous artist we know today.
"Pochette Surprise" doesn't mark a great chance of pace for CharlElie but confirms and expends his peculiar mix of poetic chanson and rock. He sings about the doubts and little pains of everyday life like no else affirming himself as a truly unique artist. His nasal and low voice inhabits the songs perfectly and you can tell the man has a universe of his own that it's only willing to develop.
We now know it did and "Pochette Surprise" maybe was the first album in which we were certain a long and fruitful career was ahead of him.

1. Pochette Surprise
2. Karate Do Rock
