I honestly don't know what to make of this one. Not that it's bad, it isn't. Just that it seems to be an artificial collage of two sides of early Jacques Higelin's work. On one hand, you have the Boris Vian covers, which are also present on the album with Brigitte Fontaine and are divine, on the other hand you have early Higelin compositions which are interesting even if lacking the brillance he will later demonstrate. Together, these two parts do not fit together too well. It still is an entertaining listen and valuable addition for Higelin's completists but hardly essential. Maybe am I being a little too harsh here as it's always interesting to hear one's roots and, don't get me wrong, I enjoy this for what it is: an archeological-typed recording of someone on the verge of becoming one of France's greatest singer/songwriting. Give it a try, you'll see what it does for you.
