YEARNING

YEARNING
PLAINTIVE SCENES (1999)
320 KBPS

A fine example of melancholic metal, Yearning gets often labeled Atmospheric Doom Metal which loosely fits their sound while not decribing it perfectly. On "Plaintive Scenes", their second full-length, the band displays some classy goth-like atmospheric metal with flute, female vocals and keyboards as key elements in their sound. Sadly, shortly after the album was released, three member, including flutist/vocalist Tiina Ahonen, left which caused their sound to drastically change and not for the better if you ask me. Anyway, Plaintive Scenes remains their finest album and a striking example of how well metal can express sadness and disillusion. A must hear if you're into that kind of mood.
