Fifth album for french artist Sergent Garcia, long, very long after his participation to French alternative punk band Ludwig Von 88 on guitar. He, nevertheless kept the dynamism of his previous formation in his latino-carribean excursions.
Sergent Garcia is all about dance, happiness and crazy rhythms and, on Mascaras, you'll travel through many countries: Spain, Jamaica, Brasil, Cuba and a few more. Weither it's salsa (Pintame), reggae (Guantanamo City), Sergent Garcia dares to mix anything sunny with a smile that makes the difference. Sure, many people would compare his work to that of Manu Chao and the comparison is valid as both artists have political views which are similar but Sergent Garcia has a voice of his own and his salsamuffin, as he defines it himself, actually appeared one year before Manu released his debut album.
Compared to his previous albums, Mascaras is the most refined he ever released and recalls what was, until now, his best opus, 2001's Sin Fronteras. So, to sum things up, if you want something to dance to that has a lot more depth than your usual salsa (or reggae) album, do try Mascaras, you will not be disappointed.
